Nahko & Medicine for the People

Music is so important to any film… feature or documentary. Finding the right music for a film can be a huge challenge. Fortunately for me the right music for my documentary film First Daughter and the Black Snake was in abundance for the film as Nahko and Nahko and Medicine for the People opened their hearts in support of the film and their music flows throughout the 93 minutes.

Other musicians, such as Annie Humphrey, Algin Goodsky, Alison Warden and Frank Waln appear in the film as well as they sang for Winona and Honor the Earth was founded by Amy and Emily of the Indigo Girls along with Winona LaDuke so music has always been central to their activism.

In addition to the musicians I was lucky to have Richard Martinez create an original score for the film as many transitions were needed and although I had a lot of great pre-existing material from which to choose – still a score needed to be made to pull the whole film together and I am grateful for Richard’s help making the original score.

Nahko is playing in Minneapolis at the Caboose on September 27, 2017. I highly recommend you check him out and see his light and feel his love in person.
