Mother power.

Mother power.

Mother power.

Winona’s mother, the painter Betty LaDuke traveled from Ashland, OR for the premiere of the film at the Uptown Theater in Minneapolis. My mom came to the premiere from Key West, FL. One of the most exciting things about the premiere was having these two women meet one another. My mom hosted a brunch the following day at Vic’s on Main Street down by the St. Anthony Main Theater which is the home of the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival. Betty was thrilled to be at the screening and since the scene with her is the favorite of so many – she was a popular person at the premiere.

The documentary introduces audiences to Betty LaDuke as she works in her home studio in the home that Winona lived in after her family left her birthplace of Los Angeles. Betty said that she learned a lot from the documentary – especially the part when Winona becomes hurt – as her Winona kept her accident secret from her mom at the time.

It was great to have my family meet Winona’s family.
